Oral Surgery in New Orleans

Impacted or badly damaged teeth and/or wisdom teeth that can potentially cause serious bite problems, infections or tooth pain should be removed. Tooth extraction might involve removing a single damaged tooth or removing all four wisdom teeth. Based on your preferences, Dr. Rivet will use local anesthetic to numb the area where a tooth will be extracted. Some patients prefer a general anesthetic, nitrous oxide or oral sedation before undergoing an oral surgery procedure. Whether you are having an extraction or some other form of oral surgery, she will do everything possible to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure.

Also, when removing a tooth it is important to consider what will be done with the empty space after oral surgery. If a tooth is removed and nothing is done with the extraction site, the jawbone will degenerate, change shape and cause your remaining teeth to shift. This can create problems in your bite and affect your ability to speak and chew. Dr. Rivet is always open to a conversation on what you would like to do with your tooth extraction site before removing a tooth. She will make a recommendation and lay out a treatment plan. Make sure to schedule follow up appointments to properly care for your tooth extraction site.
